Dear fellow bakers,

Hi, my name is Joy, and I am a home baker from Boston, MA and enthusiastic member of Operation Baking GALS. I love utilizing my passion for baking to support our troops, and since finding the organization a few months back, I’ve had the opportunity to bake for three highly deserving men currently deployed overseas. After watching an episode of Oprah that was dedicated to the troops, spotlighting those recuperating at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, I was really touched by the courageous men and women who are recovering from injuries sustained while serving. My heart ached for the pain (both physical and emotional) that they face every day, and I was wondering if there was any way the wonderful Baking GALS volunteers could help some of these admirable and inspiring soldiers. I turned to our fabulous leader, Lyndsay, and she graciously offered her assistance in turning this idea into reality.

Starting in Round 8, we will be organizing a “bonus” team, Team Oven Loving for the Recovering, which will be sending packages to recuperating soldiers. Our packages will be incorporated into a special event run every Friday, where these soldiers and their families come together to share a delicious home-style meal. It gives them a chance to spend some time out of their hospital rooms, and connect with one another, as well as to enjoy some good food! The Command Master Chief and organizer of this program would love to incorporate our homemade cookies and treats at the Friday dinners, and she’s very excited to work with us during upcoming rounds.  I am honored and eager to lead this special team, and would very much appreciate your help!

If you think you might be able to send a package to this worthy cause, I’d love for you to join my team. Thanks to Lyndsay, you are allowed to contribute to Team Oven Loving for the Recovering in addition to any other team, so if you’d like to send an extra package while still being a part of another team, that’s perfectly okay! Any way you could get involved would be wonderful. Because we would like to have our packages arrive on or before the Friday that falls during each ship week, we are going to have a pretty tight ship date, rather than the full shipping period. But not to worry, I will make sure you have all the necessary information as each round approaches!

We are having some email issues again, and I cannot wait any longer to make sure EVERYONE knows what is going on... So here is the email... I will keep it posted here until I am able to send it out.

Hello Fellow Bakers-

I hope everyone is ready for another round of baking for our deserving military!

Round 8 Information-

Leaders email me ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) no later than Sunday with your team name, and please have your articles and pictures uploaded by Wednesday.

I hope to have the teams open on Friday but no later than late Sunday.

We are also going to be doing something different this round. A fellow baker presented an idea and has done the necessary research to make it happen… SO this round, we will have a “BONUS” team which will be baking for wounded men and women.  There will be some specific guidelines for this, especially shipping dates, so please make sure that you read before you agree and to check the site for more information on this.

Future Dates-

I have posted on the site the dates for the next 4 rounds after this current one. Please check it out so that you are aware of what is going on.

Other Tidbits of information-

*  Don’t forget to join the facebook page!

*  Also, don’t forget to check out our merchandise!

*  And if you have purchased some, I would love some feedback and pictures.

*  I would like pictures to use on the site: your packages ready to go, the baked goods, actually baking them, responses from who you sent to, etc. PLEASE make sure that you will not mind them being posted on the site AND that you, yourself have taken them.

*  I also would like to start posting the responses we are receiving from those we are sending to… so if you have received some, please share them.

*  I would like to get an idea of how many cookies we have shipped so far. I will be creating a place for you to share how many rounds you have participated in and how many cookies you have baked thus far. We can keep updating it continually.

*  Finally, if you have any suggestions, ideas, problems, etc. please contact me. I love hearing everyone’s thoughts on this organization.

I created a facebook group. Please sign up and participate!

I have had many requests for merchandise to wear in order to show support and help to with recruiting. I am working on it... Proceeds will go to maintaining this site as well as other ideas that Susan and I have.

We still want to do a cookbook! But we need more recipes! We have decided that it is now free to submit recipes... For those of you who DID contribute, fear NOT, we WILL take care of YOU.
